From: Hill, JA (John) [J.A.Hill@rl.ac.uk] Sent: 17 October 2006 09:30 To: Wolfgang Funk; Cockerill, DJA (David) Subject: Walther Couplings Attachments: walther_connectors.pdf Bonjour Wolfgang, As I stated yesterday in the Crystal Palace Meeting, we intend to purchase a number of 'standard' Walther couplings to tryout on the Backplate cooling system for Dee4 prototype. It also seemed to make sense that we fit the necessary couplings to the environmental shield and to keep these couplings 'in-line' (one male connector onto the pipe, the other female connector to the flexible). I can purchase these connectors in the UK however there is a long lead time of 6 weeks, it maybe easier to purchase them from CERN. For Dee4 the plan was to purchase a quadrant worth of Backplate cooling connectors, this would mean 8 off the Type 1 connector (10mm pipe) and also the full connector set for an environmental shield, this would mean 4 off Type 3 connector (14mm pipe) and 2 off Type 2 connector (12mm pipe). For the power cooling of Dee4 we have decided to improvise some solution closer to the test beam work, it may be that based on our findings of the standard walther connector we might be able to accommodate an in-line solution also. I attach the proposed connector solution from Walther, I would appreciate that you check my statement above and verify my conclusions. The stated (UK) cost for the connectors is approximately 7kChf. Could you/someone please check the availability/cost of these units with the French representative of Walther as we may save a little time on purchase. Thanks in advance and see you next week.
