I got this back from Frank Glege (see below) . It raises more questions than it answers. Here are some: i) the main problem is that I don't actually know what these items do at any level of detail. An air deflector must deflect air, but from where to where? The same question applies to a turbine unit. ii) we need to know how to get a trigger pulse for the LED pulser. How is this done? People have assumed we need a PC to control the pulser, but is this actually the case? Perhaps all we need is a failure-indication signal to (for example) the PC that drives the HV. iii) if we do need a PC, how do we drive it? (ie where's the monitor & keyboard?) iv) are we actually allowed to have sealed boxes, as we would prefer, or must they allow vertical ventilation? If so, how much vertical flow is acceptable - perhaps we could have pipes through the boxes (to get that "steam boiler" look!). Can we duct air round the back instead, as per my naïve diagram attached? (The racks are quite deep, although there doesn't seem to be any documentation on how deep) I guess that the fan units etc are CERN Stores items, but I don't have access to the catalogue (perhaps this would be useful anyway) - are there specs for these items in the CERN stores catalogue? Do CERN stores keep 19" boxes which we could put our HV distribution circuits in (we can get them from RS if not) Perhaps those of you at CERN in the near future might be able to track down Frank Glege and/or Ron Pintus to get some more info This is before we've even considered what to put inside the boxes, especially in terms of overvoltage protection, earth clamping, series resistors, number of boxes per quadrant, etc, etc. - we need to meet up and finalise this. PCs are ordered centrally, please use https://oraweb.cern.ch/pls/cmsintegration/docs/RequestPCLogin.html to order. I think that's about it. There are some rules enforced by rack wizard. (As often, there is no written documentation.) Cheers, Frank. Williams, JH (Joolz) wrote: Dear Frank, Thanks for setting this up for me. I understand that there are various regulations regarding cooling modules, installation of PCs, etc. in the racks. Is there a guide somewhere which explains the cooling system, what you can and can't do, and what is regarded as "best practice"? Apparently the racks reserved for these are on the upper floor: B09 and G09 I've had a look around using your rack wizard program but I haven't been able to find them. But I don't really understand the coding system (B1, B1A01, X0, etc). Is there a guide to this anywhere? At some point I will probably need write access for these racks, but perhaps I should wait until I understand what I am doing!
