In answer to 5) the 'current' scheme has 29 '100' channel units and 11 '75' channel units per Dee. This equates to 87 long cooling bars (100 ch) and 33 short cooling bars (75 ch) per Dee. There is also a long cooling bar required for the token ring link board per sector of an end cap (between 9-10 depending on design). Putting the numbers together results in a total of 368 long bars and 132 short bars - without spares. All the above is 'based' on the current layout which is still under design. Dave, I should await Tony's response as he can verify and comment his thoughts on the current layout. If the '3' is simply a shorter version of the '4', this should be possible, but would require its own mould. Approx costs for the castings: 8 euro/bar aluminium material 8 " stainless steel pipe 14 " inserts to position tube in mould Total 30 euro/bar = 60k euro for barrel = 90k euro after VAT & contingency. They expect to use only one mould for all of the '4's includuing the EE '4's. A mould for the '3' is ~ 5k euro. The endcap is ~25% of the barrel => ~ 22.5k euro for all bars + 5k mould ~ 27.5k euro for all EE castings (~20k pounds including VAT). 2) TVA(VAT): Marco - are you not exempt for VAT(TVA) for goods for export to CERN? 3) Final machining For the barrel Marco estimates 200k euro for machining (50 micron precision) => ~ 50k euro for the endcaps (~36k pounds). 4) Total for all EE finished bars, ~ 56k pounds. 5) Tony/John - can you send the number of '4's and '3's for the EE to me and Marco asap ? Can we tell Marco to go ahead for production, at least for the '4's? Thanks, Dave. ************************* Addendum 1) Marco is seeking a non-destructive ultrasound testing system to check the infill of aluminium within the moulds. Do we have any expertise at RAL, or contacts outside? *** email to me and Marco asap if so. 2) N.B. The bars in module 1 are different to those in modules 2,3 and 4 on the barrel - which are needed on EE? Bar dwgs on EDMS at CMSEBSMM0192 (mods 2-4), CMSEBSMM0181 (mod 1). 3) The bars are welded/soldered to the inlet and outlet cooling pipes/manifolds both internally and externally - this is a very precise operation. We need to meet with the technical experts from Italy to discuss making the EE assemblies of bars/manifolds. Do we need bars/manifolds made up already for E0'??? **************************
