Naturally there is quite a variation of distances between the crystal face (actually from the insert face with hole) to the inside face of the environmental shield. Having spoke to Dave he suggested that I gave you the dimensional information for the inner most super crystal (C1 is a 4x5 partial) and its neighbour. Although I have only given the information for one row of crystals the ones’ above are the same distance from the screen. I could give you further dimensional information for other specific crystals but hopefully this would give you a good indicator, as you can see there’s quite a variation. The closest supercrystal points to the screen are obviously the corners, distances vary from 2-5mm over the whole endcap. Find attached pdfs for your information In answer to your other question replacing the front screen (plate) with carbon fibre will make little difference to the flexibility. I can only compare this component to a drum skin, whether in Aluminium or CF at 2mm thick there is very little that can be done. Naturally there is some weight savings (about 40%) that will reduce the weight from about 20kg to 12kg, if we had more availability for thickness we could have made a composite CF skin that would be a lot stiffer however there is very little that can be done in the 2mm available. Hope this helps. Best Regards John -- Scanned by iCritical.
