The LED is on continuously, DC. The switch box in view on top of the block actuates a sliding shutter which rises to allow the LED light through to the crystal. An individual pcb (~5.5x5.5 cm2) is used per crystal.

The block/pcb can be replaced with a pcb+mount optimised for VPT tests.
There is about a 60mm gap from the crystal to the front panel of the HT test box.

This will be removed and replaced with an EE HV filter card + 5 stephenson preamps on one mount, for VPT testing.
