The aims of the HEPNT HTASC sub-group

HEPNT is...

• A small closed group of active HEP Windows NT service providers
• A central point for exchange of information on the use of Windows NT in HEP
• aiming to coordinate activities to enable interworking between HEP sites
• aiming to coordinate activities to enable interworking between NT and UNIX (this task is shared with HEPiX)
• aiming to recommend HEP standards only where necessary

HEPNT is not...

• the source of all knowledge on Windows NT!
• a 'solution provider'
• able to carry out extensive investigations of products
• able to develop new software packages
• aiming to standardise the desktop (Microsoft defines the 'look and feel')
• going to recommend specific products, except where necessary for compatability
